Forklift Tire Specs
Forklifts have been an essential tool in commercial businesses and industry since the year 1917. Throughout its history the forklift has evolved through different forms, from a basic tractor with an attached platform to a specialized high-tech equipment. Forklift tires have also evolved into specialized tires, with different kinds designed to meet specific functions.
Cushion (Solid) Tires
Solid polyurethane or rubber are the kinds of materials utilized to construct cushion tires. They are suitable for indoor applications on surfaces which are smooth. The cushion tire tread is pressed or binded onto the steel ring of the tire. Cushion tires are rated ease of steering and for different load capacities. Cushion tires are usually used in warehouse settings.
Pneumatic Tires
Pneumatic forklift tires are filled with air or foam. They come in two types: radial or bias. Depending upon the application, they come with different tread depths, weight and sidewall protection. Foam-filled pneumatic forklift tires maintain constant pressures and are less prone to punctures. Pneumatic tires are commonly used outdoors on rough, uneven surfaces.
Pneumatic Shaped Solid/Solid Pneumatic
The comfortable ride which pneumatic tires provide along with the puncture resistance that solid tires provide are the combined features of Solid Pneumatic Hybrid Tires. They are an alternative to the outdoor pneumatic tire.
Large Rubber and Flotation Tires
Utilized on wheel loader forklifts are large rubber tires that could either be pneumatic, solid or foam. These kinds of tires are suitable for transporting and loading heavy items into processing equipment or onto trucks. Large flotation pneumatic tires are suited for masted rough terrain forklifts normally used at automobile recyclers, lumberyards and construction locations.
